Emotion: Love Bombing
Definition
Love bombing is the overwhelming display of affection, attention, and praise used to manipulate you. It is not love. It is a tactic. The goal is to make you dependent, to make you believe you have found something rare, and to lower your defenses so the abuse can begin.
WHAT LOVE BOMBING LOOKS LIKE
She showers you with compliments. You are perfect. You are the best thing that ever happened to her.
She moves fast. Wants to commit quickly. Wants to lock you down before you have time to think.
She gives extravagant gifts. Trips. Jewelry. Things you did not ask for.
She wants all your time. She wants to be with you constantly. She makes you feel like you are the center of her world.
She future-fakes. Talks about marriage, kids, a life together. Early. Before you really know each other.
She isolates you. She makes you feel like she is the only one who truly understands you. She makes you pull away from friends and family.
She tells you she has never felt this way before. She tells you no one has ever treated her like this.
HOW LOVE BOMBING WORKS
Love bombing works because it feels good.
You are being pursued. You are being desired. You are being told you are special. It is intoxicating.
But it is not real. It is a performance. The goal is to get you hooked so you will tolerate the abuse that comes later.
When the abuse starts, you will remember the love bombing. You will think, "She was so wonderful in the beginning. That is the real her. This is just a rough patch."
That is the trap.
HOW LOVE BOMBING MIGHT SHOW UP IN YOU
You might find yourself making excuses for her behavior. "She is just passionate." "She cares so much."
You might feel like you are on an emotional roller coaster. High highs. Low lows.
You might feel like you owe her. She has given you so much. You cannot just walk away.
You might feel like you will never find anyone like her again. She is one of a kind.
You might feel like you are the problem. She was so loving at first. You must have done something wrong.
LOVE BOMBING DOES NOT MEAN
Love bombing does not mean she truly loves you. It means she is trying to control you.
Love bombing does not mean you are obligated to stay. Gifts and attention are not a contract.
Love bombing does not mean the abuse is your fault. She made a choice to manipulate you. That choice is hers.
WHAT TO DO ABOUT LOVE BOMBING
Recognize it for what it is. It is not love. It is a tactic.
Slow things down. If someone is moving too fast, that is a red flag. Healthy relationships develop over time.
Watch for consistency. Is she the same person she was in the beginning? Or has the mask slipped?
Trust your gut. If something feels too good to be true, it probably is.
Do not make big decisions early. Marriage. Moving in. Financial commitments. Wait. See who she really is.
NO-BULLSHIT HONESTY CHECK
Not everyone who is affectionate is love bombing. Sometimes people are just excited. Sometimes they genuinely care.
But if the affection is over the top and comes with pressure, that is different. If you feel like you are being swept off your feet and you have no time to think, pay attention.
Love bombing is not about love. It is about control. Be honest about whether you are being cherished or being manipulated.
