Manipulators feed on reactions. Anger, frustration, over-explaining — all of it gives them energy and material to work with.
The Grey Rock method shuts that down by giving them nothing to feed on.
1. What It Means
You act like a boring, uninteresting, emotionless “grey rock.”
No spark, no drama, no fuel for their fire.
2. How to Do It
- Keep answers short: “Yes.” “No.” “I don’t know.”
- Avoid explaining or defending.
- Don’t rise to bait or insults.
- Show no emotional highs or lows in response to their pokes.
3. When to Use It
- During pointless arguments meant to provoke you.
- When they’re fishing for emotional reactions.
- When you can’t completely avoid contact (shared living, co-parenting, etc.).
4. Why It Works
Drama is their oxygen. Starve them of it, and they lose power. It’s not instant — they might push harder at first — but over time, they’ll seek their supply elsewhere.

Grey Rock isn’t a long-term fix for every relationship. It’s a survival tool. Use it to keep control in the short term while you decide your next move.
